Why a King?

Throughout Europe and the world there are many thousands of organizations and clubs advocating the restoration of the Monarchies of last century. What is common about most all of these people is that they are good Catholics. I have attended many of these meetings and I belong to a Fatima - Leiria group. In Portugal they do not have a political party simply because a Monarchy party is against the law. You can have a communist party but not a Monarchy party. The mere fact that the King of Portugal (Dom Duarte) can stay in Portugal is very rare in Europe as most past kings, like Otto Von Habsburg, have been exiled from their own countries. The vast majority of the people of Portugal love Dom Duarte simply because he is such a wonderful man, a good Catholic, a good husband and a good father.

Most of the people who belong to Monarch organizations do not know why they long for a return of the former glory of the Kings. They know something is wrong now and they know it was better then but I am not sure they know why it was better at the time of Kings.

What the government of Kings represented last century and the governments today to not represent is God. Kings represented their Catholic heritage, and the governments today are against the Catholic Church and its authority over the people. It is Catholic governments that the people want when they think back at the time of the Monarchs and long for the good old days: days when women were women and men were men, when honor and dignity were more important than money, when morals were admired and not laughed at. If it is a Catholic government that people want, why have a king at all?

People do not pick their father and mother, God does. People cannot vote for a new father or mother because their father and mother are by divine right. By blood they will always be father and mother. No one else can be a real father or a real mother except those who God made for us. A family is like a small society and all societies are extensions of the family. In the Bible the authority of the family went from the father to the oldest son by the laying on of hands by the father at his death bed. The father could pick another son or daughter but normally it went to the oldest son.

If the authority of the family could be voted on, everyone would vote for the one who gave them the most. Let us suppose that the army could vote for its commander. The army would vote for the one who was the easiest and gave them the most freedom. Let us suppose that the workers in a company could vote for their boss. They would vote for the one who gave them the most money and the most time off.

A good father disciplines his children to obey the laws of God until they learn to love those laws. They do not love them at first because of human nature. Societies are like that. There must be a chain of command in all societies or we have anarchy. A father has nothing to gain by disciplining his children to do good as he cannot be replaced by anyone. He does so for the good of the children and the common good of the family. Not for himself. The ultimate authority of a Nation must be like the father of the Nation. His name must always represent the Nation throughout history. To this day when I think of Austria I think of Habsburg but even though it is not fair to the good people of Germany, when I think of Germany I think of Hitler. A nation has a face, a human face. When this face changes every four or eight years the Nation has no face.

An ultimate authority like the Pope must have nothing to gain or loose by favoring one person or another, by approving one law or another. The ultimate authority must be uncorrectable. To be uncorrectable he must have all the power and honor and prestige possible and no one can even think that they can replace him. If his children did not replace him, he would have hundreds of fair weather friends maneuvering for the job at his death.

Just like the great golfer, Tiger Woods, who was taught by his father from the age of four to be a great golfer, so can a king be trained from birth so long as it is absolutely known that this is what the children will be. A Nation should furnish the greatest teachers in the Nation to the children of the king. Unlike politicians he will be trained just for that job.

The protection of the people from bad kings will be the Holy Father because every king must be crowned by the Holy Father and like Saul of the Bible, he can remove a king.
