Every Nation needs a large enough army, navy, and airforce to make it very inconvenient for other nations to attach it. This will depend on its natural resources, its population, its topographic landscape, and its location in the world. The primary defense of this Nation will be an armed public, but the technology should be always updated by a well equipped army, navy and airforce.

I have been in nations where the army protected the dictator from its own people. An Army is to protect the people from foreign nations and from its own government and not the government from the people.

Because of the geography and an armed people, Switzerland needs very little formal military. However, even a small military should be very modern in technology for technology wins wars and not large armies.

The military should be respected with the same honor and reverence that was once given to the knights of old. I see nothing wrong with using the terminology of the old knights within the military. In a Catholic Nation uniforms should have some sign (like the Cross) that shows they are Catholic defenders.
