Maria heard a noise from outside and showed signs of being shocked. Looking towards the window, hands to her chest, she was the first to discover Walter.

The visionaries said nothing, but Fr. Vlasic and another Franciscan confronted the photographer with, "What are you doing?" He replied, "It's not what I am doing but what you are doing. You are deceiving everybody."

When Mr. Furhoff asked for the pieces of paper to examine the handwriting, the Franciscans barked, "What do you think we are... liars and magicians?"

Walter asked, "Why are you acting in this manner? If you have nothing to hide, let me see the letters."

From that night on, relations between Walter and the Franciscans rapidly deteriorated. He was followed, shunned, questioned and barred from going near the sacristy or the church around the time of the apparitions._________________________________
